Keep your YZ running like new – join us in the Yamaha Garage to see how to maintain your motorcycle.
Step-by-step tutorial:
Change Your YZ’s Oil and Filter like a Yamaha factory technician.
In this video, we’ll walk you through the procedure you’ll need to follow to successfully change your oil and oil filter on your Yamaha YZ and WR motorcycle. You’ll also learn how to read your oil level window and check your oil pressure, along with additional steps to take to ensure you’re ready to hit the track or trail.

Before you get started, take a look at these online resources and your service manual to make sure you use the correct Yamalube products during your oil change. Have all of these items on hand before you start, along with your service manual.

Changing your bike’s oil and filter takes a little over an hour to complete, is a suitable job for many home mechanics, and is a relatively easy – but important – way to reduce wear and preserve the life of your motorcycle’s engine.

How to Clean, Oil and Replace Your YZ’s Air Filter
To maximize the performance of your YZ on every moto, you’ll want to ensure clean, reliable airflow is getting to your engine.

In this video, watch as our technician takes you step by step through the air filter inspection and cleaning process, the oiling process, and, finally, the process of determining when you’ll need a new air filter. Just like the oil change procedure, you’ll want to have your supplies on hand before you start, including Yamalube air filter cleaner and foam filter oil. You’ll also want multi-purpose grease handy for the reinstallation of your YZ air filter.

Inspecting, cleaning and changing your bike’s air filter is an easy process that should only take approximately 30 minutes to complete. If you need to replace your filter, make sure you use a Genuine Yamaha air filter that is designed for your bike’s year and model.

How to Inspect, Adjust and Maintain Your YZ Chain
Your chain is a critical component in your motorcycle’s drive train. Inspecting and properly adjusting your chain is one of the most important steps to take before you head out to ride.

In this video, we’ll walk you through several key maintenance and service items related to your chain, including Yamaha’s recommended Pre-Operation Inspection checklist, along with a full checklist of maintenance items like proper adjustment and lubrication. Yamaha’s Pre-Operation Inspection should be performed every time you head out to the track. It includes checking your YZ’s chain slack, alignment and lubrication so you’re track ready. We’ll also take a deep dive into the proper maintenance of your chain, including cleaning and inspection procedures, complete adjustment procedure, and lubrication. Finally, we’ll show you how to tell if you should replace a worn chain and sprocket setup on your motorcycle.

Maintaining your chain takes moderate effort and will take about 30 minutes to complete. Before you start, you’ll need a secure stand to safely elevate the motorcycle off the ground, so the rear wheel is able to spin freely, Yamalube off-road chain lube, gloves, and safety glasses.
